Saint Gabriel's School was born on 3 June 1953. The school began as a
small Primary School of 212 students in five classes from Primary one
to Standard Two. The students were taught by 7 teachers, under the
direction of our founder, the late Reverend Brother Louis Gonzaga.
3 May 1954 marked another special day in the history of
St. Gabriel's when the late Reverend Brother Elzear became the first
Principal of the school. In 1958, the demand for good Catholic
education in Serangoon increased the enrolment of the school to 970,
with 640 pupils in the morning session and 330 pupils in the afternoon.
In 1959, we became a full school with our first
Secondary Four class; and in 1960, students sat for the Senior
Cambridge Examinations for the first time. In 1969, the Primary School
moved into its new premises at Highland Road with an enrolment of 1350
boys. Mr Paul Lee became its first Principal. That same year, the
Secondary School became a single-session school.
