25 March 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At the start of Term Two 2008 we trust that the year is turning out to be a pleasant and fruitful one and that you have had a blessed Easter.

We urge both parents/guardians and students to peruse this edition of ‘From the Principal’s Desk’ very carefully. This document is also made available on the school website for easy referral.

For our Secondary 4 Express results, subjects with the percentage of distinctions higher than the National Average include English Language, Malay Language, Combined Humanities, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Science (Physics/Chemistry), Design & Technology, Art and Principles of Accounts.

For our Secondary 5 Normal (Academic) results, subjects with the percentage of distinctions higher than the National Average include English Language, Malay Language, Combined Humanities, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and Science (Physics/Chemistry)

2                  Day Off in Lieu of Good Results: 9th April

In order to encourage this year’s ‘O’ and ‘N’ Level cohorts to achieve as well as or better than their 2007 brothers in their national examinations, we have been given Ministry approval to declare a day’s school holiday on Wednesday 9 April 2008. There will be no classes that day.

3                  55th Annual Speech and Prizegiving  Day: 19th April

Our annual Speech Day, where we present the academic and CCA awards for the year of 2007, will be held in the school hall on the afternoon of Saturday 19th April. Selected students from the Secondary 2 cohort will be representing the school and contingents from the Uniformed Groups will be on parade. In addition we will be featuring musical items from our Gold Award winning Band and Vocal Ensemble, as well as the newly-formed Guitar Ensemble.

The Guest of Honour will be Brigadier General Lowrence Chua, Commander, 2nd People’s Defence Force Command, MINDEF, and an alumnist of St Gabriel’s.
